How to Boost Your Energy at a 9 to 5
Posted On May 31, 2016
Every morning, we might catch ourselves hitting the snooze button five times and driving to work half asleep. Why do we feel sluggish coming into our 9-5 jobs even after a full night’s rest? Consider including some of these tactics in your morning routine or throughout your work day to prevent drowsiness.
Partake in 10-Minute Morning Workouts.
Start your day off with some physical activity to get the blood flowing to your brain and muscles. Take about ten minutes to walk up and down the stairs in your apartment building or the stairwell at work. When quick workouts are implemented into your morning routine, you will notice changes in your energy level and alertness.
Have Smoothies for Breakfast.
Smoothies are healthy, quick to make, and great to take on the go. Use your favorite fruits, 8 ounces of skim milk, crushed ice, and a tablespoon or two of ground flax seed. The flax seeds add fiber and healthy fat. If you’re not a big fan of smoothies, no biggie. As long as you consider eating breakfast in the morning, your body is able to refuel and feel energized.
Get Some Sun Exposure.
Don’t be rude and hide from the sun all day. Stand outside for a few minutes for some fresh air and sunlight. Sun exposure changes your mood instantly and helps your body produce Vitamin D.
Sing Your Favorite Tune.
Did you know music can decrease tension just as much as a cardio workout can? On your car ride to work, tune into your favorite radio station or play your favorite song to rock out to. You’ll feel an instant boost in your mood and energy.
Drink water throughout the day to lessen drowsiness and boost energy level. If you had a rough night, splash cold water on your face to instantly wake up and increase alertness.
Replace Coffee with Green Tea.
Coffee is energizing for a certain amount of time until you crash. Opt for Green Tea since it’s healthier and contains some caffeine. It’s filled with antioxidants and lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease and some cancers.
Enjoy Quick Walks and Stretch Breaks.
Some of us are not disciplined enough to work out every day, especially after work. After every hour of sitting at your desk, go for a ten minute walk break for a boost in energy or sneak off to the break room for a quick stretch to help those fatigue muscles.
Power Naps Are Amazing.
Sneak off to your car during lunch break and take a 20 min power nap. It improves your sleep and your body repairs damaged tissues while replenishing energy.
Share a funny viral video.
Laughing is great for the soul! It also increases blood flow and boosts energy. During your morning meeting, share a funny meme or viral video to start off the day in a good mood. Or even try it during an afternoon meeting, when everyone comes back stuffed and drowsy from lunch.
Work can bring stress and anxiety levels to an all-time high and can drain your energy. Close your office door or go to a quiet place and meditate for a few minutes. This can rebalance your nervous system and give you a sense of calmness and a boost in energy.
