Seven Habits of Happy People

Happiness: something everyone wants, but only a few actually experience.

Happiness is a concept that differs from person to person, but when asked the question “where do you see yourself in 5 years,” most people will inevitably say they just want to be happy.

With that being said, it can sometimes be a challenge when seeking happiness mostly because the idea of happiness has been toyed with over the years. Often times we associate happiness with the logo on our cars, the tags on our clothing, and the number of bedrooms in our homes.

Contrary to this belief, true happiness has nothing to do with materialistic gain, but rather internal satisfaction with one’s life. This means if you truly want happiness, the first steps start with you.

  • Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff

If the reason you’re mad right now won’t matter in a few months, do yourself a favor and let it go. Life is way too short to hold grudges and let unforgiveness control your life. Happy people are masters at allowing life’s little everyday battles to roll off their backs.

  • Complain Less

It’s easy to allow the challenges you may face to bring you down, but happy people know how to use mishaps to their advantage to propel them forward. Rather than complaining that things aren’t going your way, be grateful for the things that are going right.

  • Live in the Present

Don’t get trapped in your past failures and don’t get too riled up about your future. Learn to soak in the present moments your life is presenting you and appreciating them each step of the way. Work on your current situation as best as you can in order to pave the perfect path for your tomorrow.

  • Positive Vibes Only

“If you hang around 9 broke people, you’re bound to be the 10th.” It’s true what they say, misery definitely does love company. Surround yourself around people who embody positive energy as opposed to people who are in a constant state of distress. Not only do negative people drain you, but they also strip you of your own joy.

  • Be Kind to People

Something so simple, yet so many people miss the mark. What goes around comes around and you will eventually pay for the way you treat people. When you’re kind to others, your brain produces feel-good hormones, which enables you to build strong and healthy relationships with others ultimately contributing to your personal happiness.

  • Live a Fulfilling Life

Travel often, create a circle of great friends, and do what you love as often as you can. It’s important to not work yourself so hard to the ground that you fail to recognize the beauty that lies all around you. Give yourself the chance to experience life fully in order to come face to face with genuine happiness.

  • Don’t Compare yourself to Others

Theodore Roosevelt wasn’t lying when he said “comparison is the thief of joy.” Your life experiences are unique so don’t waste your time comparing your value to that of someone else. You can spend a lot of time limiting your own success by spending too much time looking over your shoulders. Measure your success based on your progress only.
