With summer here and vacation on the horizon, we are all looking to get our bikini body ready for those IG pics. Here are some practical ways to introduce a few calorie-cutting techniques into your everyday lifestyle.

Exercise Before Breakfast & Don’t Eat After 7 PM

This combination alone will save you about 520 calories. A recent Japanese study found that when you exercise before breakfast, you metabolize about 280 more calories throughout the day, compared with doing the same workout in the evening.  Also, not falling into the trap of night time snacking can save you up to 240 calories.

Drink Black Coffee


A grande latte with no added sugar has about 220 calories, while a cup of straight black coffee has two. If you drink two cups a day, you are saving at least 500 calories if you switch to black.

Have Your Sandwich on a Salad

Two slices of bread with mayo adds around 550 additional calories to your meal. So instead, prepare yourself a bed of salad and put whatever meat you wanted in your sandwich on top! Less calories, same taste!

Chew Slower/Put Your Fork Down Between Bites

Chewing each bite twice as much as you normally do allows you to feel fuller on less food, AND reduces what you eat at each meal by 100-120 calories. The same goes for putting your fork down between bites you will eat slower and therefore, get fuller faster and consume less calories.

Drink Lemon Water

Swap out soda, and other sugar-filled drinks with lemon water. There are a million benefits to the yellow citrus, but as far as calorie cutting, it works wonders. You will save nearly 200 calories for every lemon water swap you make. If you swap out three drinks a day, you will save 500 calories.

Cook Your Meals at Home


It was found that people who cook dinner at home consumed about 140 fewer calories than people who typically ordered in, dined out, or heated up meals.

Box Up Half Your Meal Before You Start Eating

According to new study, researchers found that a standard meal at an American, Italian, or Chinese restaurants contains nearly 1,500 calories. Yikes! Surely, nobody needs that many calories for just one meal – so before you start eating your dinner, have the waiter box up half of it so that there is absolutely no temptation. That will save you about 750 calories a meal.

Substitute Mushrooms for Red Meat

In a John Hopkins study, people who substituted mushrooms for red meat ate 444 fewer calories, enjoyed their meal just as much, and felt just as full. Mushrooms are extremely low calorie, have zero fat, and are nutritious. It’s a win/win/win.

Chew Gum & Drink More Water


Research from the University of Rhode Island showed that people who chewed gum consumed 68 fewer calories at lunch and did not compensate by eating more later in the day. There’s more: Gum chewers actually burned about 5% more calories than non-gum chewers. Also, people who drank an additional one to three glasses of water a day cut food intake by 205 calories, according to a study done in the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

Keep it Cool

Keeping your home or office at a temperature between 62 and 77 degrees will actually help you burn more calories, according to a study published in Trends in Endocrinology & Metabolism. A cooler environment makes your body work harder to maintain its 98.6 degree temp. The same principle applies when you drink chilled water. You can burn 25% more calories when you drink cold water before a workout.
