Tips on reaching your goals with Girl Gang founder Amy Will

Female founder Amy Will is on a mission to inspire women to reach their highest potential together. The fashion entrepreneur dove into the e-commerce business at a young age and since then, she has launched four successful brands. Her latest brand, Girl Gang, started with one flagship product, the “Support Your Local Girl Gang” sweatshirt. After the sweatshirt received buzz on social media and through word of mouth, Will decided to create a full line of products. Now, she has secured retail partnerships for Girl Gang apparel with Nordstrom, the Beverly Hills Hotel and boutique fitness studios across the country. Amy is also the host of “Girl Gang the Podcast,” in which she interviews inspiring women on their brands, projects and endeavors. NEW YOU had the chance to interview Will about her brand Girl Gang, her entrepreneurial challenges and the advice she has for young women seeking to launch businesses of their own.

NEW YOU: You started your first business at the age of 24. What inspired you to become an entrepreneur at such a young age?

Will: I was working at a startup, learning how to build an e-commerce business and my husband gifted me a $100 Etsy gift card for Christmas that year.  I used the gift card to order materials and start a hair accessories business.  At the time, I was hoping to make some side hustle money but as it evolved, I stepped into my new role as a small business owner.

NEW YOU: What are some of the challenges that you have faced as an entrepreneur and how did you overcome them?

Will: Saying yes to too many things and being spread too thin. I often have to check in with myself to see if I am taking on too much and if so, filter through anything that is taking up too much time and not aligned with my goals.

NEW YOU: Tell me about your latest brand Girl Gang. What was the inspiration for the brand? Where can people buy it?

Will: Girl Gang is focused on empowering women through storytelling.  We also have a merchandise line which features our signature product, a Support Your Local Girl Gang crewneck.  You can read stories, listen to podcast episodes, and purchase items at girlgangthelabel.com.

NEW YOU: Tell me about your podcast. Who have been some of your favorite guests?

Will: Our podcast is focused on interviewing female founders and creatives about the highs and lows of entrepreneurship.  My favorite guest has been Laura, the founder of Nourish Sweat Soul and a dear friend. Laura is personally passionate about living an eco-friendly lifestyle and I think the episode is so informative to anyone interested in how to incorporate sustainability into their everyday lives.

NEW YOU: What advice do you have for aspiring female entrepreneurs?

Will: What you don’t do determines what you can do.  If you say no, or an opportunity does not come to fruition, trust it is for something bigger and better.  Get comfortable in the blank space so you can eventually create what you truly desire.
