Millennials, The Digital Nomads
Posted On Dec 02, 2015
Millennials, a word that arouses many sentiments spanning the positive and negative spectrum. On one hand, these young professionals are viewed as ambitious and motivated, on the flip side their free-spirited nature makes them a morally depraved generation reveling in debauchery. Millennials, bewildering the older generation one grey head at a time.
But, are Millennials as morally-voided and technology zombies as they are painted out to be? In my very own and humble opinion, Millennials, aka Digital Nomads, are best described by four distinct characteristics:
Millennials’ dependency on technology is irrefutable. This generation is highly addicted to technology and they are constantly in front of a glowing screen, whether it is a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smart phone- you name it! FOMO (fear of missing out) is prevalent in this generation, hence, millennials are constantly plugged in to social networks, whether it is tweeting, snapchatting or liking/commenting/uploading pictures, social networks are only deepening the technology craze.
Millennials are highly entrepreneurial in spirit. Many want to be their own bosses and pursue their dreams. This generation is marked. Digital pioneers who march to the beat of their own drum have created the biggest social media platforms of our time. Take for example, cofounder of Snapchat, Evan Spiegel- at 25 years old he is sitting on billions (not millions, sorry Drake) and is dating supermodel Miranda Kerr. Not too shabby for a Millennial eh?
3.High Influence Power
If you are between the ages of nineteen to thirty-six, congratulations, you are a Millennial! Did you know there are approximately 75.7 million of “us” in the world? Strength comes in numbers and according to Visioncritical.com our millennial generation has an estimated purchasing power of $1.68 trillion dollars! Companies would be wise to heed our values, needs and wants.
Lastly, Millennials love to just get up and go. Millennials are addicted to freedom and instant gratification. We love to explore, we love to meet people, we love to be curious and satisfy our curiosity. We are constantly on the hunt for the next big thing. We thrive on our experiences and are hungry for knowledge. We thrive on travel and adventure.
So from one Millennial to another, take the good about our generation and use it to make the world a better place. Cheers, digital nomads!
