Will You ‘Unplug’ for Free Chick-fil-A?

Put down those phones and pick up some waffle fries! Fast food favorite Chick-fil-A started a new movement called the “Cell Phone Coop Challenge” encouraging customers to converse with family at dinnertime rather than interacting on their cell phones – which we are all guilty of.

To participate, customers silence their phones and put them in a small, square box called the “coop.” If everyone at the table finishes their meal without taking the phones out of the coop, they receive a small Chick-fil-A Icedream cone.

The challenge has quickly caught on at more than 150 locations around the U.S. after Brad Williams, a Chick-fil-A operator in Suwanee, Ga., started the concept, the company says.

“We have families who aren’t successful the first time and come back to try again. We even have people asking to take the boxes home with them! Our whole community is talking about it,” Williams said.

I am loving this concept, Mr. Williams. It’s brilliant! A lot of the world is concerned about the disconnect and lack of human interaction brought on by the technology boom. This is just one wonderful way to re-connect with the family all while enjoying some good chicken bites.

He continues to say, “My kids know when they sit down for a family dinner, they can’t be using their cell phones or any other technology,” who jokingly calls them “screenagers.” “This is the way I was raised – to truly value meaningful conversation around the dinner table.”

Well played Chick-fil-A. Well played.
