Snack Small

NEW YOU Health Tip: Even small portions will satisfy your appetite.

Here are the facts: For a happy, satisfied belly, you actually need less than half of the snacks you previously thought. Cornell University researchers devised an experiment to determine if those who received smaller portions felt hungrier or satisfied 15 minutes after putting down the fork. The study involved two groups of people who both received an unlimited amount of time to consume different portions of potato chips, apple pie and chocolate. One group received 1370 calories (approximately a day’s worth) worth of snacks and the second group received 195 calories. The first group, with an excessive serving size, ate 77% more food, yet they did not report feelings of satisfaction greater than the portion-controlled group. Conclusion – eating more does not equate to feeling better neither does it promote a fit and healthy physique. So the next time you find yourself at the bottom of a bag of chips, on the second serving of pie, or reaching for the extra helping of chocolate, remember that unlimited portions will do nothing more than boost unwanted caloric intake.
