Winter Morning Hacks

Winter

Your alarm goes off. You were just in mid-dream of you and Leonardo DiCaprio’s wedding day. You feel the ice cold chill on the other side of your warm comforter. And now you have to brave the cold and get ready to be away from your beloved bed for the whole day. How can we make this daily obligation easier? Here are some life-changing morning hacks.

  1. Set Your Thermostat

I have literally sat in bed for an extra 30 minutes, having to talk myself into getting up because it was to cold too just do it. If you set your thermostat to kick in two hours before you plan on waking up, it will make a world of a difference. Not only will it make it easier to get out of bed in the morning but it will also increase your core body temperature to help avoid prolonged sleep inertia aka morning grogginess.

  1. Morning Jam Sesh

Instead of using the generic iPhone alarm, set your alarm to your favorite song. Or a song that makes you feel good, inspires you, or just hypes you up. Walking on Sunshine? Eye of The Tiger? Or Nicki Minaj’s verse in Monster? Whatever gets you up and moving. Create a morning playlist that you can listen to during your morning shower. There are millions of morning motivating bangers to choose from.

  1. Straight to the Shower

The warm water will get your circulation going. Not to mention you just created a killer morning playlist. Do some stretches while you’re in there to get your body moving. A little aromatherapy never hurt nobody. Mint or lemon flavored scrub can also help facilitate the wake-up process.

  1. Plan Your Sleep Around Sleep Cycles

If you get the right amount of sleep every night, waking up in the morning will be way easier. Especially if you plan to wake up after a sleep cycle is complete rather than mid-cycle. Sleep cycles are approx. 90 minutes, so plan your sleep in multiples of 90 minutes. Do you ever wake up before your alarm goes off? Most likely, you hit the end of a sleep cycle. So when this happens, don’t go back to sleep. Go to sleepyti.me to calculate what time you should go to sleep at night for the proper sleep cycle completion based on what time you have to wake up in the morning.

  1. Smile, Give Thanks & Set Your Intentions

A beautiful mindset makes a beautiful day. It has been proven that smiling literally changes your brain chemistry for the positive. So try to start every day with a smile. (Write a note on your alarm to train yourself to smile every day). Think about how lucky you are to be waking up and how blessed you are with the life that you have. Set your intentions for the day. What do you want to accomplish in your life? What can you do today to get a little bit closer to that? Nothing is more motivating than fulfilling your dreams. That is one of the rewards of waking up every day.

If all else fails, you can always set your alarm clock somewhere away from your bed, so that you will have to get up to turn it off.  Just remember that waking up every day is a gift, that and the timed thermostat should get you through your winter blues.
