New You Anti-Aging Tip: Gently wash your skin after sun exposure to maintain healthy, clear complexion.
We all know the best way to avoid sun damage: a strong sunscreen, a long cover up or a pledge to stay inside forever. We don’t often think about how to treat our skin after sun exposure. Dermatologist William Danby, MD, Manchester, NH, recommends, “A gentle hand wash with a non-soap bar cleanser like Dove for Sensitive Skin (Fragrance Free), to remove all sunscreen residue, followed by two or three glasses of cool water. The environment after sun exposure is generally high in humidity so nothing else is needed. After sun exposure from skiing or other winter sports, [apply] a very light coat of a mild oil such as almond, walnut, peanut, or even canola.”
