Jaidyn Triplett on Releasing Her New EP, Advocating for Mental Health, and Caring for Her Crown of Hair

Jaidyn Triplett has burst onto the scene as both an actor and a musician and made quite the name for herself. Widely praised for her role as Millicent Mitchell in Paramount+’s iCarly and hit songs, Bopstar, Tornado, and Enough Jaidyn will be releasing her first EP on November 17th, which will include a new song Gone with the Wind. Without a doubt Jaidyn Triplett is one to keep your eye on. We sat down with Jaidyn to talk about her go-to beauty routines, her new single, Enough, and her advocacy for mental health…

Thanks so much for chatting with us! Tell us about your new single, ENOUGH. What was your inspiration for making this song with such a powerful message behind it?

Enough is about one of my favorite affirmations, “You are enough.” I think it’s really changed the way I see and go about life. I really wanted to bring attention to this by creating a catchy and positive song that can help my fans realize they are not alone. I hope that people who listen will be able to relate and also understand the message and apply it to their everyday lives. The opening lyric says, “Words can hurt… and they can heal… Only if you let them. What they say about you is not real, you know YOU better!

Aside from music you are also a talented actress. Are there any actors/directors that you’ve worked with that you feel have shaped you and your craft?

I feel like I’ve learned so much from my cast family about navigating this industry. Having to juggle acting and school has always been a tough thing for me, so having their unique advice and guidance along the way has been so beneficial.

You use your platform and music to advocate for mental health. Why was this a cause that you wanted to lend your voice to?

Mental health has always been something I enjoy speaking about and something I want to bring more attention to. Dealing with work and school, it can get overwhelming. I had to learn how to calm down and analyze each situation accordingly. Retraining myself to prioritize finding solutions instead of harping on what’s out of my control.

Mental health can affect everything from your behavior and mood, to your grades in school. So I’ve needed to reach out for help and that has definitely been one of my biggest obstacles. If I can practice what I preach, I hope to inspire other kids my age to do so too.

While advocating for others it’s also important to focus on your own mental health. Do you have a self-care routine you implement into your busy schedule?

I actually enjoy taking my weekly Sunday “everything” showers. This is where I exfoliate, shave, and dedicate at least 2 hours for hair wash (if I’m still feeling up for it haha). I set the mood by lighting a candle, doing my skincare and drinking some tea. It’s such a refreshing way to start the week.

You have incredible skin! Tell us about your skin care routine. What are your favorite products?

Thank you! As a teenager, occasional raging acne comes with the territory. Normally if that happens, I’ll end the night by double cleansing with a cleansing balm (if I’m wearing makeup), PanOxyl acne wash then applying my skin care that includes hyaluronic acid from The Ordinary, a vitamin C serum, and lastly a gentle moisturizer from Cetaphil. The Ordinary is one of my favorite skin care brands right now for their simple ingredients.

You’ve also said before that your hair is your crown, do you have any go-to styling/hair care products?

I really enjoy using Bounce curl’s tools and hair products. The viral curling brush in addition to their leave-in conditioner leaves my curls looking soooo juicy. I also like using Cantu for a lot of my basic needs.

The trick is to protect your curls with a bonnet at night, refresh your curls with water and a light leave-in and style with as many single braids and claw clips you can!

You tend to play around with your style, what is the key to putting together a trendy outfit?

For personal comfort fashion I love love love high-waist jeans. As we transition into fall, my go-to outfit is a pair of high waisted jeans, a cute and colorful crop top or baby tee with some gold jewelry and white air forces. Basic and comfy but that’s what I wear all the time.

Now if we’re talking about carpet appearances and photo shoot looks, I have nothing but trust and confidence with my stylist Ambika Sanjana and my parents. They always have my back and have helped me discover when I’m the happiest with what I’m wearing. My only rule is that it has to be colorful and if I can sneak some cute heels for extra height in there, even better!!

In addition to all of your success in the film/TV and music industries, you also have your own small business baking cheesecakes and other baked goods. How did this venture come to be?

My baking adventure began during quarantine. I started with baking chocolate chip cookies and box cake until I came across a cheesecake recipe. I’ve since cultivated my very own menu with specialty cakes and pies. I only began selling to family and friends 2 years ago and it has been such an amazing journey. So many people have been supporting me, motivating me to expand my business. Baking is one of my biggest passions and something I’ve considered going to school for.

What advice would you give to other young women that are looking to take control of their own narrative?

My mom used to tell me this when l was little and still tells this to me today, “You are enough.” This has helped me through the toughest of times because there are going to be negative people in this world. It’s so important to know that your opinion is the only one that matters. You are enough.
