5 Vitamins for Healthy Skin

Healthy Skin Formula: Epionce’s Intense Defense Anti-Aging + Repair Serum

I never suffered from dry skin until I moved to South Florida from New York. Sure, New York winters were generally unkind, but overall my skin remained smooth and in tact throughout the year. When I arrived in Miami, I spent more time going out at night (wearing more makeup than I should). The overuse of cosmetics dried out my skin and damaged its natural barrier. My face began to flake and it was noticeable—but I was unwilling to sacrifice my new nightly routine.

I thought if I applied lotion, that all my problems would be solved. But when my dry skin persisted, I researched further. I learned that the skin is the body’s largest organ and that it requires vitamins and nutrients to function properly. From there I began applying different serums underneath my lotion, which nourish the skin and make it healthy enough to efficiently absorb moisture.

My skin regained its luster and I found several great serums in the process of experimenting with different brands. Some left my skin slightly greasy; others felt great (i.e. Dr. Dennis Gross and Amarte products). Recently I tried Epionce’s new Intense Defense Anti-Aging + Repair Serum formula because it is the first on the market to combine all five vitamins (A, B, C, D and E) to give the skin everything it needs to function properly. The formula works great, feels amazing, and absorbs into the skin instantly so that my face is make up-ready in no time.

To learn more about the secret behind the formula, I sat down with Epionce’s Founder, Dr. Carl Thornfeldt.

NEW YOU: Why does the skin need all five vitamins?

Dr. Carl Thornfeldt: Since skin cells are human cells: Proper nutrition is required for healthy function and to produce the best skin rejuvenation results. Your skin cells have receptors for every nutritional need. Each receptor is like a lock on a door. Each nutrient is like a key. The key only fits in a certain lock. If there is not a matching “lock,” then the “key” is not used by the cell! We use specific forms of each vitamin that the cells can actually use.

NEW YOU: Let’s break it down. How does each vitamin work to improve the skin?

Dr. Carl Thornfeldt:

Vitamin A  “There are three different forms of vitamin A used in the body. Vitamin A is essential for normal cell growth and function. It helps to modulate collagen synthesis, and improve skin texture, firmness and smoothness, resulting in a more youthful appearance.”

Vitamin B “There are six B vitamins that have varying activity and mechanisms of action, however in general B vitamins help to reduce sensitivity to UV light by normalizing keratinocyte (outermost layer of the skin) size and function. They improve skin barrier function, and normalize cell metabolism.”

Vitamin C “Vitamin C helps prevent damage to cell membranes from oxidation, and is necessary for collagen production. It provides photoprotective properties, is effective as a skin brightener, and is used extensively for treatment of visible aging.”

Vitamin D “There are three D vitamins that have varying activity and mechanisms of action. They significantly affect epidermal cell turnover to improve skin hydration, feel, texture and firmness. They also boost cell immunity and balance protective inflammation to help prevent skin cancer.”

Vitamin E “There are eight components within vitamin E. Vitamin E is considered the most important oil-soluble antioxidant and free radical scavenger, provides photo-protection, protects cell structure, enhances barrier function, and improves the appearance of rough, dry, damaged skin.”

NEW YOU: What tips do you have for when and how to apply?

Dr. Carl Thornfeldt: “We recommend use 1-2 times daily before application of moisturizer and sunscreen.
