Sonja Morgan Reveals Her Strange Skincare Secret: “I Avoid Showering!”

Sonja Morgan has always been an open book. And that’s especially true when it comes to sharing her tips and tricks for her youthful appearance. But while she’s shared details on everything from her regular Botox treatments to her recent facelift, the Real Housewives of New York star revealed one surprising beauty secret no one saw coming. She doesn’t shower!

Sonja sat down with RealSelf.com, the medical aesthetics industry’s leading community and marketplace, during their recently launched digital event series “Beauty in Focus” on Sept. 24 to chat all about the latest cosmetic procedures for neglected areas on our body — the jaw area, neck, and chest — and products to prevent and reverse signs of aging. It was during that chat the reality star opened up about the cosmetic procedures she’s undergone and her daily beauty habits, one of which is not showering.

“I avoid showering,” Sonja said during the virtual event. “I tend to take baths instead of showers. Showers are very drying.”

What’s more, the 56-year-old also regulates her apartment’s humidity to help maintain that natural glowing skin. “I keep my humidifiers on 24/7 not just for the antiques but for my skin as well,” she said. Sonja noted that it doesn’t matter how much plastic surgery you’ve done; if you don’t have the natural glow, it’s all for naught.

Of course, it doesn’t matter how well you take care of your skin, sometimes the aging process takes over, and going under the knife is necessary. Sonja, who was joined on the panel by Dr. Janet Allenby, Board-Certified Dermatologist; Dr. Dilip D. Madnani, Board-Certified Facial Plastic Surgeon and Erica Martin, Senior Education Manager at SkinCeuticals®, and RealSelf Head of Content Carolyn Hsu, opened up about why she finally opted to get a lower deep plane facelift.

“I work a lot in my bed. (A therapist will say the only thing you should do in bed is sex or sleep),” she told RealSelf. “So, I got that turkey neck. It takes a lot of courage to do something with your face. It was a big decision. I had trout mouth. I pulled the puppet lines and the neck back. I’m happy to have my jawline back. I look a little different, but I’m happy.”

Sonja, who also admitted to trying AHA peels, Botox, PCP, and microdermabrasion, said that along with being happy with the results, she was surprised by the minimal recovery time of the facelift.

“I had it done on Friday and went to a movie premiere on Wednesday,” said the TV personality. “A week later, I took photos. I had no bruising for the first three days. On the fourth day, I saw slight bruising. But nothing more than what I had with Botox.”

And while the no-holds-barred star is open to all procedures, she admitted during the event that there is one she will never do: rhinoplasty.

“I like my nose. It reminds me of my family and heritage,” she said. “But, I do use fillers for the tip of my nose to lift it.”
