Kearran Giovanni dishes on self-love, living with gratitude and that “Walker,” wedding…

Kearran Giovanni, wears many hats: actress, mother, globe trotter, and phenomenal cook, just to name a few. With some notable credits under her belt including The CW’s “Walker” and TNT’s “Major Crimes” she is no stranger to Hollywood, and is well versed in what it means to have a full plate. Her ability to juggle it all with such grace is powerful, and has come after many years of working to prioritize the right things, making time for self love, and as she puts it, “many many shared calendars”. We spoke with Kearran about living with gratitude, her passion for wellness and self-care, and what she’s “cooking” up next…

1.  Tell us about your role as Kelly in CW’s hit series “Walker”?

Kelly is Captain James’ ex-wife. They share a college age son together and have recently rekindled their relationship. She’s a boss! She runs a sports recruiting agency.

2.  Can we expect another season, and will we see more of Kelly?

We just got picked up for another season and you will for sure see Kelly again… She will be a regular character in the Walker family. And I can’t say anymore!

3.  What are some tips you’ve picked up for balancing your personal life with an acting career?

Oh gosh, well I have had children pretty much my entire career. I met my husband shortly after starting my Broadway career and we got married and had children very soon after. Tips: I would say it all about priorities and planning. My family is my priority and everything else gets planned around it. Calendars. Many, many shared calendars.

4.  When you have a day to yourself what does that look like? What do you do for yourself in terms of self-care?

I love going to the spa. To ensure I go regularly, I got a membership to Burke Williams. I makes sure that I go and get a massage or facial once a month. I sit in the hot tub/steam room and just relax for a few hours.

5.  Why do you think it’s so important to live with gratitude?

So many reasons. Looking at the world, situations, opportunities big and small with gratitude is better for your health both mentally and physically. If you’re able to make a choice…why not gratitude? Negativity and pessimism are contagious. I think everything that I go through, even if it isn’t what I pictured, is a learning opportunity and that is a blessing.

6.  We hear you’re an amazing cook! Is cooking something that helps contribute to your overall wellness?

Awww! Thanks. I absolutely love cooking (and eating). Being in the kitchen with a glass of wine and music playing is my happy place. I cook from all over the globe but my favorite is home cooking. All of my family is from Louisiana so there is a lot of seasoning and flavor. I make dinner for my family as much as I can and during the week.  I’d say I do 2-3 nights of very healthy, almost Mediterranean style cooking, and balance it with a few days of just delicious indulgence. It’s all about moderation.

7.  When did you first become an advocate for the Lupus Foundation of America? Why should others get involved with this organization?

I became involved with the Lupus Foundation when my mother lost her battle with lupus 12 years ago. She fought for almost 30 years. Recently, so many celebs have come out and been transparent about their struggle with this disease. It is a very elusive disease that still needs constant research to help those suffering with its many complications.

8.  What are some of the go-to beauty products you’re loving? Any special rituals or skin care routines you abide by?

I still have adult acne! Just on my cheeks. So, I started taking Spironolactone about 10 years ago and it changed my life! It strings the oil glands behind your face. Now, I just get a few here and there. As far as products, I love anything Dr. Dennis Gross. I use their vitamin C line. And I use the Differin line daily scrub for my acne prone cheeks. As I mentioned before, I try and get a facial every month…I don’t always succeed but I try!

9.  What’s next for Kearran? Any fun projects for the summer?

This June we’re heading to Japan for 2 weeks and I cannot wait to soak up everything. As far as projects: I’m starting a little YouTube cooking channel, and fingers crossed we’ll be done with the WGA strike and Walker will be back in production by August!
