How to Charter a Yacht for the Afternoon

Have you ever chartered a yacht to arrange an exclusive four-hour experience for 24 members of the press? Me neither. Luckily, I had an award-winning boat rental and yacht charter to help with the details.

SamBoat was born when two boating enthusiasts in France took on the mission to connect local boat owners and yachtsmen, Airbnb style. Almost a decade later, their company grew to include over 50,000 boats that welcome more than 350,000 novice and experienced sailors in major sailing destinations worldwide. Today, this global boat rental platform enables anyone to charter a boat — with or without a skipper — for a few hours, a day, or even a week.

In a word, SamBoat revolutionizes the process of chartering a yacht. Companies like Uber and Airbnb make transportation and travel accessible, but the boating world lagged behind. SamBoat saw the opportunity and made yachting affordable and easy for everyone.

An afternoon on the water with SamBoat

On May 4th, at noon, I set sail with a group of excited bloggers and influencers on the Sunseeker Predator 62 and Sea Ray Sundancer 500. Our goals were simple: have fun, cruise to Monument Island, and check out the service and amenities that SamBoat has to offer.

The captain and first mate from SamBoat were incredibly attentive. They set the mood with music from the onboard sound system, cranked up the engines, and steered us wherever we asked to go.

The weather could not have been better. After an hour or so of cruising, we anchored at Hanover Sandbar to have some fun in the water. A few of Otter PR’s other clients, Eleven20 Tequila and Tina’s Vodka, provided their signature cocktails and refreshments. Another client, Float Factory, let us zip across the waves in their Formula 1-inspired racecar floats.

Where would a live event like this be without influencers? Darcey Silva, from the TLC hit TV program “Darcey and Stacey,” hung out with us. The atmosphere of an afternoon on the waves delivered everything I hoped it would. Everyone left their cares on the sand and spent the afternoon playing with floaties, pretending to be Formula 1 racers, sipping cocktails, and enjoying our time together.

Gone are the days when yachting was an exclusive pastime for the ultra-rich. Thanks to SamBoat, anyone can enjoy a gorgeous day at sea with their closest family and friends.
